Once programmed, an EPROM can only be erased by exposure to strong UV light.?This is because the photons of light excite the electrons in the cells causing them to discharge.?EPROMs are easily recognized by a transparent window at the top of the package, through which the silicon chip can be seen and which admits UV light during erasure.
